Self publishing can sometimes be the only means to get published these days, especially with the emergence of the digital book market. That said, this is one of my self-published series available in print on demand at lulu.com and in digital format at bookrix.com. These are also going to be available at amazon.com pretty soon.
Anyway....
What is Hallowedspell all about?
Imagine that all the mythical, legendary, and supernatural creatures did in fact exist. And that for centuries they have remained hidden from the sight of mortals simply because they chose to. Sound familiar?
Yeah. That's the premise for many books. I know.
But in Hallowedspell there is no Mist that separates mortals from the supernatural. There are no shield charms or spells. Willful ignorance is the only thing that keeps mortals from realizing that there are supernatural beings walking among them on a daily basis. The rule is simple: if you don't dabble in the occult, if you do not seek the supernatural, the supernatural will leave you alone. BUT...if you do, watch out.
The stories in the Hallowedspell universe are about people who get sucked into the supernatural goings-on, or are born into it.
Basically, it asks "What if someone was born a demon? Can this demon choose its life, or is it destined to be evil?"
See, I don't believe in genetic determinism. It think genetics is nothing more than a launching point, like on a diving board. The leap you make is what counts. It is what you choose to do from that point that matters.
So, Hallowedspell addresses this universal question: "Am I only the sum of my parts, or is there something more to human existence?"
Books to follow:
Hallowedspell Series:
7 Stories set in Middleton Village, Massachusetts--A.K.A. Bermuda Triange, Mass.--a town dominated by a witch coven.
It follows the supernatural adventures of 8 teenagers who inadvertently get sucked into another world and return with years of experience on a battlefield as well as the ability to sense magical things nearby. These 8 are chosen (in book 3) to be what is known as the Holy Seven.
I know. 8 is more than 7.
Vimp Series:
The novella series takes place in northern California. The first tale follows the misadventures of Eve McAllister as she discovers after her 14th birthday that she is in fact not human at all, but a blood-thirsty demon. Which, excuse the pun, sucks.
Her destiny is to kill the Holy Seven. It was what she was born for--the result of a curse created in ancient Egypt by combining a vampire with an imp (a little invisible devil that feeds off of mischief). One is born every 300 years, and lives a 300 year life span. Eve is the one for this generation. Problem is (for the witches who had created her kind), Eve would rather go surfing, eat ice cream, and hang out with her best friend Jane Bennetti, and her adoptive family--the McAllisters.
Many forces are at work in Eve's life, some for good, and some for evil.
Tales from Gulinger High:
The "Tales from Gulinger High" are a short story collection set in New York City. There, at Gulinger Private Academy, live children who are either hiding from organized crime (in witness protection, called Mafis by their classmates), or kids who have some kind of supernatural connection (called Ghoulies by their classmates).
Following the misadventures of five friends (mostly) that attend this school, the stories deal with feeling like a freak, dating someone who is able to kill you, handling bullies the supernatural way, dealing with monster hunters set on killing you at every opportunity, handling strange bodily cycles, and dealing with outrageously obnoxious supernatural family members--among other things.
This collection will have spin-off novels which I call "Ghoulie Tales", the first of which is "Witch Sister, Wolf Brother"
The Hallowedspell universe contains more than this, of course. But I think I'll stop for now.
